Doing Laundry

Frederick and I were so excited about our upcoming nuptials! Frederick came home with champagne and made dinner, we were calling it our pre-anniversary. I thought he was going to propose formally to me that evening, but I didn't think it was very original and romantic. Finally, the thought left my mind, as I went on doing my regular Friday thing, cleaning, laundry, etc… Frederick offered to help me at the laundry mat by putting my clothes in the wash while I cleaned the apartment. Now you have to understand, I looked like hell. I had some shorts full of holes, an old t-shirt, no bra…. (You get the picture). Anyways, I was almost finished cleaning by the time that he came back and since he knows that I am picky with my laundry, he asked me to go back to the laundry mat with him. So I put some old overalls over my very "chic" existing outfit with some ratty old sneakers. So off we went and put the clothes in the dryer. Frederick thought that it would be nice to go to our "spot" to reflect on our pre-anniversary. The "spot": on the Rideau Canal on the Carleton University Campus. It's where we went on our first date and where we always go to have a heart to heart. When we got there and Frederick said: "So, this is where it all started." I said:"Yeah…(and gave him a hug) He said: I spoke with your dad the other day… I said: "Humm" (it wasn't unusual) He said: "I asked for your hand in marriage and he gave his blessing." I started to cry…I mean the floodgates were open! He got down on one knee ring box in hand and said: "Suzan, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?" Well I lost it!!! I was crying and hugging him!!! He said: "Don't you want to see the ring??? It was the most beautiful solitaire I had ever seen… The best part is that when I asked him about why he chose that particular time. He said: "I didn't want to wait until you thought you were looking perfect, but until you were the most beautiful in my eyes, the beauty that I see everyday in my heart."

Across the Long Corridor

Christian snores a lot and I have a hard time getting to sleep. Most of the time I have to go into the guest bedroom to get some sleep if he snores to loud. On the morning of December 1st, Christian woke me up in the guest room begging me to come back to bed in our room. It was cold and I did not want to get out of my warm bed but he pleaded so I finally got up from the bed and walked across the long corridor to the other bedroom. I noticed that Christian had a huge grin on his face, which he usually doesn't have at that time of the morning. As I walked into the bedroom, I stopped in chock! He had filled the bed with rose petals, and I mean filled, we couldn't even see the bed. In the middle of all those rose petals was a little white box with my beautiful ring! I turned around and he got on one knee and talked about how he felt and how much he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, he even used my favourite phrase, "I wanna Grow old with you!" I of course said "yes" and the rest I leave up to your imagination…Good thing he was snoring that night, I don't know how he would of gotten me to sleep in the other room!

A touch of magic

This is a day that will be magical till the end of time. I met my fiance at church during an Alouette (football team) event about two years ago. I was not planning on attending, but I decided to go at the last minute. It turns out that my fiance was not scheduled to speak that night, but he was asked at the last minute. After all the speakers were finished, refreshments were served in a hall within the church. There were a lot of individuals asking for autographs so I didn't introduce myself, besides (my fiance) was introduced as the only single Alouette player, so there were plenty of ladies hovering around him. Well, to cut to the chase, as I was leaving the church, the Deacon in the church called out my name and said that he wanted to introduce me to someone. No way, I was thinking. He called his name and introduced both of us to each other. There was instant chemistry. Let me tell you praying works! Well, a week passed and he had gotten my phone number from the Chaplain of his team who had gotten it from the deacon. And so the dating process begins… about two years later, in September, we got ready for a date. However, the pastor of my church called my fiance and asked to see him ( I didn't suspect anything, since they get along so well). So we found ourselves at church waiting for the pastor, in the hall where we had met, it was totally dark. I told him there was no way that the Chaplain could be here. My fiancé said: "Of course he is here", as he turned on the lights. I turned around , I saw red rose petals on the floor. They were arranged in a diagonal line into a circle from the door of the hall to the exact spot where we had met. The song "Aude de Joy" by Beethoven was playing in the background. He said that that was the song that was playing when we were introduced. We walked over to the circle of flowers (hand in hand) symbolizing our meeting and he got down on one knee and said: "Two years ago we met at this very spot, and though none of us were planning on being here, we were destined to be together and through those two years you have made me so happy, the happiest I have ever been and you will make me even happier if you marry me". By that time I was crying and smiling at the same time and I was so overwhelmed with joy that I couldn't speak, I just nodded my head. Then he asked: " Judy, would you marry me?" I said yes and he slipped the beautiful ring in my finger. He lifted me in his arms and we danced till the song came to an end. When we finished dancing we met the pastor at the other end of the church, who was in on the engagement plans. He prayed and gave us a blessing. We then went to eat, where we had made reservations. We talked the whole night through. We know that our relationship is magical and we will always have that special touch of magic!

Scared of Heights

My fiancé and I contemplated marriage for a while. Since our first conversation on the subject, I had always tried to figure out when he would actually propose. We had been together for six years, and I was starting to loose hope, thinking that he would never ask me. Two months ago, my fiancé had a business trip in New York City and wanted me to join him over the long weekend. At first I thought "oh my God! He is going to ask me on the trip!" On our last night there, we went to the Empire State Building and after realizing how scared of heights he was, he quickly proposed while holding on to the railing… I cried and said: "yes"!

The Greatest Summer Day

One Sunday afternoon, my fiancé got a call from his friend who wanted to go to a baseball game. Expos were playing. I was not really in the best of spirits that day. During the game, he said to me to look at the big screen-we were on TV. We were not, however, at the big O there is a billboard for cartoons and messages right next to the one for TV. After a few attempts to get me to keep looking, we saw, in big letters, "My Peanut, will you marry me- Bumble Bee?" All I could say was: "Oh my God!" It turned out to be the greatest summer day!

Moving Day

My fiance and I had just spent a week moving from Spingfield, to our new home in Saint-Sauveur. On July 6, after our family had helped us move into our new home, my fiancé and I were sitting in our crowded living room, exhausted. He started teasing me about never wearing his silver ring, that he had purchased in Indonesia. He wanted to make sure that I had not left it in Virginia. He kept bugging me about never wearing it, and as I started explaining why I wasn't wearing it, he asked me if he gave me another ring would I wear it. I started to turn red and told him to stop teasing me. He asked me if I wanted the ring. When I said yes he pulled it out of his back pocket. He had it there all day, while we were moving. He said: "Since we bought a house together and this is the night that we start our life together. I cried…and of course our phone lines were not installed yet so I had to wait to call my friends and family!!!Mon copain Frédéric m'a amené voir une partie de hockey au Palais des Sports de Sherbrooke, le vendredi 13 octobre. Entre deux périodes, il est allé sur la patinoire pour me faire sa grande demande en mariage. Il y avait au moins 1200 spectateurs. J'étais très émue car je ne m'attendais pas à une demande en mariage ce soir-là. Le lendemain cela a paru dans le quotidien La Tribune de Sherbrooke. Selon moi, c'est la demande de mariage la plus originale qui soit.
