CHOOSING A DATE

Your church should be contacted as soon as possible to fix the wedding date. Depending on your religious congregation, you may be asked to attend a certain number of services or classes before you are eligible to be married. Some churches will announce your intention of getting married in the church pamphlet for three consecutive weeks.

There are many things to consider when choosing your wedding date.

The choice of the month and the day is often related to your budget and the kind of wedding you want (See : Kinds of wedding). The months of May through September are the most popular and the most expensive for the bride and groom. The preferred days for a wedding are: Saturday (for the catholics) and Sunday (for the Jewish). The time of the wedding depends on the type of wedding that you choose
(See : Types of weddings).

The couples wanting to save money and to marry before or after the wedding season need to consider special occasions. The Holiday season, in December and the beginning of January, may not only make reservations difficult, but also costly. The number of guests attending will be smaller as well. This is a fact, for all of the special occasions throughout the year, including Birthdays and the wedding anniversaries of your loved ones.

Another important thing to consider is the Honeymoon. If you plan to leave for your Honeymoon immediately after your wedding you must be certain that you will be able to take a vacation from work at that time.

Finally, women, you can plan your wedding date around your menstrual cycle. An old tradition, in some nationalities, would want that the consummation of the wedding be done on the wedding night. It is difficult to plan your menstrual cycle one (1) year in advance but if you can, plan your wedding before or after your period, you'll appreciate your wedding day even more!
