Answers To Your Questions

Q. "My fiance and I, want an outdoor wedding in the country. Since we both live downtown and both work 9 to 5 all week, we do not have the time to search for our perfect site. How can we make our dream a reality ?"

A. Your problem is lack of time. Why not hire a wedding planner or consultant who will act as your personal researcher. He or She, will find exactly what you're looking for.

Q. "How long should our photo session last after the ceremony ?"

A. One hour is a reasonable span of time for your photo session. During that time, your guests will leave the ceremony to get to the reception site, and enjoy a cocktail while waiting for you. The cocktail should not last more than 45 minutes.

Q. "I live in the states (Illinois). Montreal seems like a great place to get married. Question...what are the "rules":
  1. length of time between getting the license and getting married?
  2. what documentation is needed?
  3. any blood test?
  4. who can perform it? (can it be done at the courthouse?)"

A. The following are the aspects of a wedding service which are required by law in Montreal.

  1. One must have a public notice of marriage posted at least 20 days prior to the wedding date, wether it be in a courthouse, in a church, outdorrs... No license or blood test needed.
  2. In presence of a person authorized to celebrate marriages and two legal witnesses, the couple must make an affirmation indicating that the marriage is their free choice.
  3. The authorized person (minister, chaplain...) must pronounce the couple married.
  4. A copy of articles 392 to 396 of the Quebec Civil Code must be presented to the couple.
  5. The DEC form needs to be signed by the couple, their two witnesses and the officiating person. The form will be sent to the Government of Quebec by the officiating person.

For any additionnal information of help you could consult a wedding planner or wedding consultant in Montreal to prevent making costly mistakes (see the section on our site called: "Planners/Consultants/Coordinators")
